The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has appointed English referee Michael Oliver to officiate the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg match between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. The highly anticipated encounter will take place this coming Tuesday at 20:00 GMT+1 at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

Oliver, 41 years old, has been an international referee since 2012. He will be assisted by Stuart Burt and James Mainwaring as linesmen. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties will be handled by Jarred Gillett and Italy's Marco Di Bello, with Andrew Madley serving as the fourth official.

The English referee has officiated five Real Madrid matches in his career. In one of these encounters, the Royal club lost 1-3 to Juventus at the Bernabéu in April 2018, though they still advanced to the Champions League semi-finals. Oliver also oversaw Real Madrid's 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2022 UEFA Super Cup, a 2-1 win against Sporting Braga in August 2022, and a 3-4 defeat to Olympiacos in the current continental competition last November.

Regarding Bayern Munich, Oliver has refereed seven matches involving the Bavarian side. Bayern emerged victorious in all but one of these games. Their wins include a 3-1 triumph over Beşiktaş in March 2018, a 4-0 defeat of Atlético Madrid in October 2020, a 3-0 victory against Barcelona in September 2021, a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in February 2023, a 3-0 success against Bayer Leverkusen in March 2025, and a 4-2 win over Flamengo in the Club World Cup last June. Bayern's sole draw under Oliver was a 1-1 result against Red Bull Salzburg in the first leg of the 2021-2022 Champions League round of 16.
