FIFA Launches Final Ticket Sales Phase for 2026 World Cup, Aims to Break Historic Record
FIFA has launched the final phase of ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup finals, commencing on April 1st at 3 PM UTC. This phase operates on a first-come, first-served basis via the official ticketing website. Sales will continue until the tournament concludes on July 19th, with the international body confirming that tickets will be released gradually, covering matches scheduled for the same day.
The international organization aims to break the historic record for tickets sold at a single tournament, set in 1994 with 3.5 million tickets, by making approximately seven million tickets available. This figure is based on the capacity of the sixteen host stadiums. Actual sales during the first three phases have already surpassed three million tickets, reinforcing expectations of exceptional fan engagement for this edition, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, featuring 48 national teams.
On another note, the ticketing procedures have faced legal criticism after the European Football Fans organization, in collaboration with Euroconsumers, filed a formal complaint against FIFA on March 24th. The complaint included accusations of abusing a dominant market position and employing purchasing procedures described as opaque and unfair. Meanwhile, FIFA is set to reopen its official platform for ticket resale and exchange on Thursday, allowing fans to manage their bookings and providing additional opportunities for those wishing to attend.
