Mohamed Ouahbi Replaces Walid Regragui as Morocco National Team Coach
The Moroccan Football Federation has announced the departure of Walid Regragui from his position as head coach of the national team, paving the way for Mohamed Ouahbi to take over the technical leadership of the Atlas Lions for the upcoming period. This change in coaching staff follows a distinguished tenure for Regragui, with Ouahbi selected after previously achieving a notable success by leading the Moroccan U20 national team to win the Youth World Cup.
Portuguese coach João Sacramento will join the new technical staff led by Mohamed Ouahbi, bolstering the coaching team with his extensive experience gained in European football. Sacramento, 37, has previously worked as an assistant coach at major clubs such as Lille, Tottenham Hotspur, AS Roma, and Paris Saint-Germain, making him a strong addition to the technical work alongside the new head coach.
Walid Regragui led the Moroccan national team to unprecedented achievements, most notably reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and guiding the team to the final of the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations. However, the loss in the continental tournament's final match against the Senegalese national team led to reports of his departure, which was later confirmed at the end of February following a series of consultations regarding the team's future.
