L'Equipe Confirms Moroccan Media Reports on Regragui's Departure, Wahbi's Appointment; Will Federation Issue New Statement?
French newspaper L'Équipe has confirmed reports from Al-Botola and Moroccan media regarding the Royal Moroccan Football Federation's (FRMF) separation from national coach Walid Regragui and the appointment of Mohamed Wahbi as the new coach of the Moroccan national team.
Al-Botola had previously reported in an article published on February 26 that the aforementioned body had severed ties with Regragui and appointed Wahbi as the new coach for the "Atlas Lions."
The French newspaper clarified that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation officially ended its association with Regragui after a successful period leading the Moroccan national team, which included distinguished participation in continental tournaments and a remarkable international record.
According to the French report, the final agreement to terminate the contractual relationship between Regragui and the Federation has been signed. Coach Mohamed Wahbi is expected to take over the Moroccan national team, with João Sacramento and Youssef Hadji joining the new technical staff as assistants.
To date, no official statement has been issued by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation clarifying the details of the new technical staff for the Moroccan national team. This comes less than three months before the start of the 2026 World Cup, raising the question: Will the Federation issue a new statement?
