Regragui: "Bounou Kept Us Alive in First Half; To Win Titles, You Need a Goalkeeper Like Him"
National coach Walid Regragui praised the exceptional performance of goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, affirming that he was a decisive factor in keeping the Moroccan national team in contention, especially during a somewhat relaxed first half.
The Atlas Lions coach emphasized that Bounou saved the team from certain goals, particularly during one of Senegal's most dangerous opportunities. Regragui highlighted that the Moroccan goalkeeper deservedly earned the title of best goalkeeper, stating, "He kept us alive, especially in the first half during Iliman's chance, when we were a bit relaxed."
He continued, "To win titles, you must have a great goalkeeper, and today we had a great goalkeeper." Regragui also underscored Bounou's leadership role within the squad, adding, "He is an exceptional person within the group, and even his speech at the end of the match was positive."
Regragui did not hide his immense pride in the Moroccan goalkeeper, considering him a football icon for Morocco and Africa, and a prominent name on the global sports stage. "He is a legend for us Moroccans, for Africa, and even for the world," Regragui affirmed.
The national team coach concluded his statement by asserting that Bounou remains a historical benchmark in Moroccan goalkeeping and one of the best goalkeepers in the world. "For me, Yassine remains the best goalkeeper in Morocco's history and one of the best goalkeepers in the world," he stated.
