Regragui: 'Ighaman Suffered ACL Injury, Could Be Out for 6 Months'
National coach Walid Regragui has provided details regarding the injury sustained by player Hamza Ighaman during the Africa Cup of Nations final. Regragui expressed profound regret over the incident, emphasizing that the injury was unexpected and unrelated to any previous issues.
During the post-match press conference, Regragui stated: "I believe Ighaman suffered a cruciate ligament injury, and this has no relation to his previous injury. May God heal him, the poor guy, he might be out for 6 months."
He further added: "I fielded Ighaman when he was ready, and as I told you, I believe he is suffering from a cruciate ligament injury as a result of a collision. This is something you cannot predict; it's not a muscle injury, and it has nothing to do with finishing the match with ten players. These are matters of fate and things that happen in football."
Regragui continued: "One of our best players suffered a ligament injury. We hope it's not specifically a cruciate ligament injury and that he can return to play quickly. Ultimately, these are the risks; when you are a coach, you make decisions. It wasn't meant to be for Hamza."
It is worth noting that Senegal defeated Morocco in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, securing their second continental title in history.
