Egypt Coach Hossam Hassan: "We Don't Expect Support from Anyone; We Were Focused on the Tournament"
Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, addressed some of his controversial statements made during the Africa Cup of Nations "Morocco 2025," affirming his commitment to achieving the team's best performance.
Speaking at the press conference ahead of their match against Nigeria, Hassan stated: "When I say that we are the Egyptian national team, we play for the championship until the last moment, because we have won the continental title 7 times."
The "Pharaohs" coach added: "We have always supported all our Arab brethren, especially in the World Cup, where we were big supporters of Arab football."
Hossam Hassan had previously sparked widespread controversy with earlier remarks, saying: "Egypt is the mother of Arabs and the mother of Africa, and no one possesses the history we do. When it comes to championships, no one is like us; in terms of strength, Egypt is stronger than the entire world. Everyone is jealous of Egypt. We won the Africa Cup 7 times, which is why there is jealousy."
Regarding Moroccan fans' support for the Egyptian national team during the tournament, Hassan affirmed: "When we talk about anything related to support, we don't expect anyone to cheer for us or not. We were generally focused on the tournament, and we accepted playing under pressure, with no issues whatsoever."
It is worth noting that the Egyptian national team will face its Nigerian counterpart in the third-place playoff match tomorrow, Saturday, at 17:00 GMT+1, at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
