
Nigerian Finance Minister: 'All AFCON Match Bonuses Disbursed, Funds Expected in Accounts Today or Tomorrow'
Nigeria's Minister of Finance, Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, released a statement via her official X account, providing an update on the match bonuses for the Nigerian national team players participating in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Minister stated, "I am pleased to provide an update on the administrative progress regarding match bonuses for our national team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations."
The Minister explained that the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have successfully streamlined foreign exchange transfer procedures to ensure players receive their entitlements without delay.
She added, "Going forward, the process will be fully streamlined to ensure faster and more predictable disbursement of entitlements, in line with international best practices."
The Minister outlined the progress achieved so far as follows:
Funding: All group stage match bonuses have been fully disbursed and have cleared all required regulatory stages.
Acceleration: A rapid conversion process for funds into foreign currency has been implemented, aligning with players' preferences.
Disbursement: Final transfers to players' individual bank accounts are currently underway, with funds expected to reflect in accounts starting today or tomorrow.
The Minister affirmed that the government's focus remains entirely on supporting the team's welfare, enabling players to maintain their "outstanding" performance during the knockout stages, emphasizing that the primary goal is to bring the trophy home.
