Mahrez on Nigeria Clash: "We Know Them Well, It Won't Be Easy"
Riyad Mahrez, captain of the Algerian national team, affirmed that his team deserved to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals, following their "difficult" 1-0 victory over DR Congo in the Round of 16.
Mahrez stated in a televised interview: "I believe that over the course of the match, if the scales had to tip in anyone's favour, it was ours. We faced a good Congolese team; they played cohesively and left few spaces, but we were resilient. We didn't concede many chances, and we always know we have players who can make a difference."
Regarding the upcoming match against Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals, he explained: "Nigeria? We know them well; the match won't be easy. A last-minute free-kick again? We'll see, anything is possible."
It is worth noting that the Algerian national team will face their Nigerian counterparts in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals next Saturday (17:00 GMT+1) at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
