Cameroon Coach: "Morocco are Natural Favourites, We'll Rely on Our Strengths"
David Pagou, coach of the Cameroonian national team, believes that their Moroccan counterparts are the natural favourites to win the match scheduled for next Friday (20:00 GMT+1) in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.
Pagou stated in the press conference following their 2-1 victory over South Africa: "We started preparations with this group a while ago, and we succeeded in finding the right voice and the appropriate mentality, especially after eliminating the South African team, who played a strong match and were a high-level side. We suffered during the game, and questions were raised about our ability to keep up with our opponents."
He added: "Mentally, the players developed very quickly. They could have struggled, especially at the beginning, but they handled the situation very well. At this level, you need strength, and essentially, mental strength. It's not just about football; it's about mental toughness, and when teams of the same level face each other, the team that often wins is the one with greater mental strength. That's why we aspired for more."
He continued: "I don't know how to describe it, but the result confirmed to us that we are capable of winning as much as we desire. This national team is a very strong side, with technically proficient players who know each other well, and to achieve victory against a team of this calibre, you need a steely mentality and great mental composure. This is exactly what we aspire to."
He concluded: "The Moroccan national team are the natural favourites, as you've noticed, because the stadium will be full of their fans, with their red colours and a green flag in the middle. But we will succeed by relying on our strength and capabilities."
