Tanzania Coach Gamondi: "Not Happy with Some Refereeing Decisions, But That's Part of Football"
Miguel Gamondi, head coach of the Tanzanian national team, expressed his dissatisfaction with some of the refereeing decisions during his side's Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 match against Morocco.
Speaking at the post-match press conference following their elimination from AFCON, Gamondi stated: "I believe I feel completely satisfied and very happy with the team's performance. I think we delivered a great performance against one of the biggest teams on the continent, and in front of a massive crowd that perhaps reached 80,000 spectators."
He continued: "I believe we closed down the spaces very well, thwarting most of Morocco's potential attempts. The proof is that they only managed four shots on target. They created two dangerous opportunities, and we also created two dangerous opportunities. Certainly, they dominated possession because they exerted a lot of pressure and power playing on their home turf."
Gamondi added: "We managed the match very well. I am not entirely happy with some of the referee's decisions, but this is part of the game; it's football. I am very proud of the tactical work, the players' commitment, and their behavior on the field. We did not come here to 'park the bus' (play overly defensively); instead, we came to play and offer strong competition, and I believe the Tanzanian people should be proud."
He concluded by expressing his bewilderment: "For me, it's strange that the referee said there was no penalty, and VAR was not even reviewed. This is odd, but what can I do? It's over. I cannot complain, and I cannot say anything more than that; it's over."
