Guissan After Gabon Comeback: "Our Goal is to Go as Far as Possible in AFCON"
Defending champions Ivory Coast maintained their lead in Group F of the Africa Cup of Nations "Morocco 2025," ahead of Cameroon, following a thrilling 3-2 victory over Gabon on Wednesday.
The Ivorian team started the match poorly, falling behind by two goals. However, coach Emerse Faé's side staged a powerful comeback in the final minutes, thanks to goals from substitutes Evan Guessand in the 84th minute and Bazoumana Touré in the 90th minute. This strong recovery sent a clear message to the other qualified teams.
Following the match, striker Evan Guessand told "beIN Sports": "We started the game poorly and conceded two early goals, but we showed mental strength. We remained resilient and focused, and we are one of the teams that can achieve something in this competition. We have goals in mind, and the objective is to go as far as possible. From the beginning, we have been aware of the quality of the squad, and we hope this confidence continues for the rest of the competition."
This victory kept Ivory Coast at the top of Group F, after a direct struggle with Cameroon, who were level on points until the final matchday. Ivory Coast will remain in Marrakech to face Burkina Faso on Tuesday, January 6, at 20:00 (GMT+1), in what will be the last Round of 16 match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
