Benin Assistant Coach Names Morocco, Egypt, Senegal, DR Congo, Tunisia as AFCON Favorites
Nabil Trabelsi, the Tunisian assistant coach to Gernot Rohr for the Benin national team, has named five teams as contenders for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title. He highlighted Morocco as a leading candidate, alongside Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Ivory Coast.
Speaking to Egyptian channel "ONE", Trabelsi said: "It is possible that we will face either the Egyptian national team or Morocco, the leader of Group A. We still don't know, as the Sudanese national team secured a victory, and the situation for the third-placed teams is not yet clear."
Regarding the teams he believes are strong contenders for the title, Trabelsi elaborated: "Senegal and DR Congo, and certainly Morocco, especially with the support of its fans. The Egyptian national team always remains strong and excellent, gradually developing. The Tunisian national team also possesses great potential and aims to reach the advanced stages of the competition."
He concluded: "We know our capabilities well. We have a young team, and we are working on developing it gradually. We achieved Benin's first-ever victory in the Africa Cup of Nations, which is a testament to the progress being made in Beninese football."
