Chippo Praises Mazraoui, Diaz, and Ounahi, Warns of Mali's Counter-Attacks
Former Moroccan international Youssef Chippo lauded the performances of Noussair Mazraoui and Brahim Diaz in the first half of the Moroccan national team's match against Mali, during the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations group stage. He emphasized the crucial need for a second goal.
Speaking on beIN Sports' analytical studio, Chippo asserted that the Moroccan team faced a strong and distinct opponent, particularly in midfield. He stated: “A different opponent with quality players, especially in midfield, forced the Moroccan team into duels and tackles, and they are strong in tackles.”
Chippo explained that such matches demand speed and individual skills, adding: “In such matches, speed is essential, and when you play against strong opponents who possess speed, skill, and strength, you need individual skills.”
He pointed out that Morocco's right flank was the most effective during the first half, saying: “The right flank was the best today; Mazraoui and Diaz, in addition to Ounahi, who had a good half.”
Conversely, Chippo believed the left flank was not as impactful, clarifying: “We didn't see much of the left flank, as Saibari always drifts more into the center, and there isn't much support on the left flank during passing plays.”
Youssef Chippo suggested a tactical adjustment for the second half, favoring the introduction of Abdessamad Ezzalzouli. He commented: “I prefer that either at halftime or after the second half, Ezzalzouli is brought in because he is similar to Diaz, a player who holds the ball, is fast and skillful, and this always gives you balance on both the right and left flanks.”
He also cautioned about the danger posed by Mali's swift transitions, stressing the importance of vigilance and focus, especially in midfield: “The midfield needs more strength because they are aggressive in midfield, and we must always be cautious because Mali has counter-attacks and quick transitions.”
Chippo concluded his remarks by underscoring the psychological importance of scoring and the necessity to maintain pressure in the second half: “It's an important half to score for morale, but in the second half, we must continue and score another goal.”
