South Africa national team coach Hugo Broos expressed his dissatisfaction with the penalty awarded to Egypt in their match today, Friday, during the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations group stage.

Speaking at the press conference following the 1-0 defeat to Egypt, Broos said: "First, I want to talk about the meeting you attend before the tournament. For 45 minutes, they explain the rules to you – 25 rules, 50 rules. Then it's a penalty, then it's not a penalty. Then it's a red card because you hit a player, then it's not a red card, then anything. In the end, there are so many rules that nobody knows what to do."

Broos added: "Regarding the first penalty, even Mohamed Salah told me after the match, 'I was surprised it was a penalty.' It was ridiculous, truly ridiculous."

He concluded: "At the meeting, they said when the arm is extended away from the body, it's a penalty. This is what happened (with Yasser Ibrahim); the arm was extended away from the body. Therefore, it was a correct penalty that was not awarded."
