Zimbabwe Midfielder Andy Rinomhota Leaves AFCON Camp Citing "Urgent Family Matters" and Psychological Impact
The Zimbabwe national team has suffered a significant setback following the announcement by midfielder Andy Rinomhota that he has immediately left the team's training camp.
Following yesterday's defeat against Egypt, the Zimbabwe squad was forced to part ways with one of its players, with Rinomhota citing "family circumstances" as the reason for his departure.
The midfielder explained, in a statement posted on his social media accounts, that an urgent family situation demands his complete attention.
Rinomhota's statement read: "I would like to inform the public that I have left the Zimbabwe national team camp, effective immediately, due to an urgent family situation that requires my full attention."
The Reading FC player had featured as a substitute in Zimbabwe's opening match, stating that the current situation has affected him psychologically, making him unable to perform at his best on the field.
The Warriors' number 10 stated: "I am sad to miss a tournament of this magnitude. Representing Zimbabwe at the highest level has always been a source of great pride and motivation for me. However, the timing of this emergency does not allow me to be in my best psychological state to give everything I have for the team."
Despite his departure, Rinomhota did not rule out a return to the national team, concluding his statement by saying: "I remain at the disposal of the national team and am ready to return and answer the call as soon as these circumstances conclude."
