Petkovic: Past Failures Are Behind Us, Tomorrow's Match Offers New Opportunity
Vladimir Petkovic, coach of the Algerian national team, affirmed the "Greens'" readiness to face Sudan in their opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations group stage. He emphasized that the team is entering the tournament with a new mindset and full focus on the future.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Petkovic stated: "I believe we are satisfied with what we have done so far. The team is in good condition, and fortunately, we have recovered all players except Aouar. The group is working hard, and I am confident they will start well."
He added: "I told the players that the past is behind us. We are working today for tomorrow, and we want to enter this tournament with confidence. We are still waiting for the final training session to determine the starting lineup."
Regarding the pressure associated with the opening match, Petkovic explained that it is normal in such competitions but does not hinder the team. He said: "Pressure is normal, and we know the importance of this first encounter, but we are calm. Winning this match is very important because it will give the team confidence and motivation for what is to come."
The Algerian coach concluded by asserting that the failures of previous editions are no longer a concern. He added: "The failures of 2021 and 2023 are behind us. Tomorrow's match is an opportunity to change things, and we are fully focused on the future."
