Mahrez: "Happy to be in Morocco, We Feel a True Brotherly Spirit Here"

Riyad Mahrez, captain of the Algerian national team, affirmed that the atmosphere within the Kingdom of Morocco is positive and reflects the spirit of brotherhood between the two peoples. He emphasized that the Algerian team is determined to give its all to honor Algerian football in the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Speaking at the press conference preceding Algeria's first match in the AFCON, Mahrez stated: “The atmosphere here is very positive, and we feel a true brotherly spirit. The reception has been good, and we greatly appreciate that. We are here to compete and honor Algerian football.”

He continued: “The matter of my father being Algerian and my mother Moroccan remains personal. The most important thing is that we feel welcomed and respected by the Moroccans, and I am very happy to be in Morocco and participate in this continental event.”

Regarding the criticism he faces, the captain of “The Greens” said: “Criticism is part of football, and with age and increased experience, it becomes normal. My focus is solely on delivering a better performance on the field.”

Mahrez concluded his statements by saying: “Our primary goal is to appear honorably and deliver performances befitting the history of Algerian football in African competitions.”
