The Moroccan national team commenced their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals campaign in ideal fashion, securing a two-goal victory over Comoros in their opening match. This encounter was significant not only for earning three crucial points but also for marking three notable statistical milestones in the history of the "Atlas Lions."

With this triumph, Morocco extended their impressive home record, which now stands at 30 wins and 4 draws in their last 34 official matches played on home soil. The team has remained undefeated at home since November 2009, when they suffered a defeat against Cameroon during the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

The "Atlas Lions" also continued to showcase their strength in utilizing substitutes effectively. Ayoub El Kaabi notably scored the second goal after being introduced from the bench.

El Kaabi's contribution elevated the Moroccan national team to third place on the list of teams with the most goals scored by substitutes in Africa Cup of Nations history, now totaling 16 goals, behind only Côte d'Ivoire and Egypt.

Furthermore, the victory in the opening fixture enabled the national team to raise its overall tally of wins in the history of its participation in the continental finals to 30 victories.

Consequently, the Moroccan national team now occupies the sixth position among teams with the most AFCON wins, sharing this rank with Senegal and surpassing both Algeria and Tunisia.
