Real Madrid secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over hosts Deportivo Alaves on Sunday evening. The match, part of La Liga's 16th round, took place at Mendizorroza Stadium.

The Blancos finished the first half with a one-goal lead, courtesy of French star Kylian Mbappé's strike in the 24th minute. However, the home side managed to level the score in the 68th minute through Carlos Vicente.

Brazilian forward Rodrygo proved decisive, netting Real Madrid's winning goal in the 76th minute. This crucial strike reportedly saved coach Xabi Alonso, whose position was under threat after the team had secured only one win in their last six matches, alongside two defeats and three draws.

With this victory, second-placed Real Madrid increased their points tally to 39, narrowing the gap with league leaders Barcelona to four points. Alaves, meanwhile, remain in 12th position with 18 points.
