Fatal Tigers Declare Mourning, Call for Accountability Following Fes Building Collapse
The “Fatal Tigers” group, supporters of the Maghreb Fes club, issued a statement expressing their profound sorrow and regret following the tragic incident in the Al-Hassani Ben Dbab neighborhood of Fes. The collapse of two adjacent buildings resulted in 22 fatalities, numerous injuries, disabilities, displacement, and significant material losses.
The group affirmed that the collapsed buildings were constructed in 2007 as part of a slum eradication program, but without adhering to safety, monitoring, and follow-up standards. They considered the incident a reflection of the extensive urban chaos plaguing Fes, with serious violations being overlooked by responsible authorities.
The Fatal Tigers' statement highlighted that Fes, a beacon of knowledge and history, is now experiencing a difficult reality characterized by deteriorating infrastructure, poor services, delayed development projects, and increasing socio-economic fragility, all amidst what they described as a painful silence from the relevant authorities.
The group emphasized that this tragedy is not the first, and may not be the last, given the large number of dilapidated buildings within the Fes municipality, coupled with a lack of accountability. They demanded the harshest penalties for all those involved in this incident, particularly what they termed the “real estate mafia” that trades in citizens' lives without any moral or human conscience.
The Fatal Tigers declared their absolute solidarity with the families of the victims, the injured, and those affected, offering condolences to the deceased and calling for a serious and impartial investigation to determine responsibilities and impose the necessary legal sanctions.
The group concluded its statement by confirming its decision to cancel all celebrations for its nineteenth anniversary, out of respect for the victims and in solidarity with the city's residents. They stressed that Fes does not deserve what they called “orchestrated indifference” or the neglect that has surrounded it for years.
