AS FAR Awaits CAF Response on Refereeing Injustice Against Young Africans, Calls for VAR Implementation

Last Saturday evening, AS FAR sent a protest letter to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding what it described as "refereeing injustice" during its match against Tanzania's Young Africans. The game was part of the second round of the CAF Champions League group stage.

"Al Botola" learned that in its letter, the military club expressed strong surprise at the absence of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the encounter, despite its importance in such competitions. The club urged CAF to implement VAR in the group stage to protect clubs' rights and prevent the recurrence of errors that affect the sporting integrity of the competition.

The Rabat-based club indicated that its protest is primarily based on a legitimate goal that was disallowed for offside, even though television replays clearly showed no offside infringement. The club believes this decision directly impacted the match's outcome.

Despite three days passing since the letter was sent, AS FAR has not yet received any response from the continental body.

It is worth noting that AS FAR will host Egyptian side Al Ahly in the second round on Friday, November 28, starting at 8:00 PM (20:00 GMT+1) at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
