Al Ahly Announces El Shenawy's Grade Two Groin Strain Ahead of AS FAR Clash

Egyptian club Al Ahly announced on Monday the nature of the injury sustained by their goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, ahead of their match against AS FAR in the second round of the CAF Champions League group stage.

Al Ahly released a statement via its official accounts, quoting the team doctor: "The scans undergone by team captain Mohamed El Shenawy confirmed he suffered a grade two groin strain, which he sustained during Al Ahly's match against Algerian side JS Kabylie in the first round of the CAF Champions League group stage."

The club's statement continued: "Al Ahly's doctor added that scans also revealed Ahmed Abdel Kader suffered a partial tear in his hamstring, while Mohamed Shukry sustained a grade one calf strain. All players are scheduled to undergo rehabilitation training according to their specific programs to prepare them medically for their return to team participation."

El Shenawy had to leave the pitch injured during the match where his team defeated Algerian visitors JS Kabylie 4-1, in the first round of the CAF Champions League group stage.

The injury is expected to rule El Shenawy out of the upcoming match against Moroccan representatives AS FAR, which will take place at Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in the capital Rabat next Friday at 20:00 (GMT+1).
