
Hakimi After Winning African Player of the Year: "Proud to be Moroccan, We Will Give Everything to Win the Africa Cup of Nations"
Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi was crowned the African Player of the Year for 2025 this Wednesday evening, during a ceremony hosted by Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat, the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Following his coronation, Hakimi stated: "Praise be to God, it is an honor to win this award. It is an award for all Africans who dream of playing football one day, and also for the people who believed in me daily and helped me reach where I am today."
He added: "I will start by thanking His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who provided us with all the resources to develop Moroccan football. I also thank my president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, for his trust in me since the first day of my transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. Thanks also to our president, Fouzi Lekjaa, who provided us with the best conditions, and I am proud that he is our president. I hope you will be proud of us, and we will try to give everything to win the most important trophy, which is the Africa Cup of Nations."
He concluded by saying: "I thank the most important people in my life, my family, especially my mother, and all the people who stood by me and supported me during difficult moments. With the help of my family first, and my friends, I reached where I am today. I am proud to be Moroccan."
