Morocco Confirmed in Pot 2 for 2026 World Cup Draw Following Monthly Rankings
The Moroccan national team has officially secured its place in Pot 2 for the 2026 World Cup group stage draw, which is scheduled to take place next December.
The draw ceremony will be held on December 5 at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada. The tournament will feature an expanded number of participating teams.
Morocco's placement in Pot 2 was confirmed as the majority of the teams qualifying for the finals became clearer, with European qualification spots being progressively secured. On Monday, November 17, both Germany and the Netherlands booked their World Cup berths, following Germany's dominant 6-0 victory over Slovakia and the Netherlands' 4-0 win against Lithuania.
The FIFA rankings, released today, further solidified the pot allocations. The Moroccan national team is ranked 11th globally and holds the top spot among Arab and African nations. This ranking means their hope of being placed in Pot 1 has now diminished.
Pot 1 of the draw will feature the top nine teams in the global rankings, alongside the three host nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
