Marseille Acknowledges AFCON Importance for Aguerd, Won't Prevent Participation
Reports indicate that Olympique Marseille understands the significance of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for their Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd, and will not prevent the player from joining his national team despite his current injury.
According to the French website "Foot Mercato," Olympique Marseille recognizes the importance of the Africa Cup of Nations for Aguerd and will not attempt to prevent his participation; quite the opposite, in fact.
The same source also noted that Marseille's technical staff is currently collaborating with the Moroccan national team's medical staff to prepare a special and suitable program to enable Aguerd to return as soon as possible, ensuring he is 100% ready from the start of the tournament. This news is expected to reassure Moroccan national team fans, given the player's significant importance in central defense.
The French website further explained that the Italian coach had appealed to the Moroccan national team, which had called Aguerd for their November camp, to handle him with caution to avoid jeopardizing his chances of participating in the Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament the 29-year-old defender highly values.
It is worth noting that Aguerd is suffering from a sports hernia (pubalgia), sustained during a match between his team and Brest in the French League, which forced him to leave the pitch at the Velodrome Stadium in the 79th minute.
