LaLiga Participates in Dismantling International Piracy Networks in Operation Kratos 2
LaLiga, the Spanish professional football league, participated as a strategic partner in Operation Kratos 2, a large-scale international initiative aimed at combating digital piracy. This action was supported by the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) and coordinated with police forces across Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The operation targeted the dismantling of criminal networks involved in the illegal distribution of protected content.
This intensive operation spanned the period between September 2025 and April 2026, primarily focusing on dismantling the infrastructure of groups operating illegal streaming platforms for sports matches, films, and television channels. Within this framework, the international initiative sought to identify individuals responsible for the management, marketing, and technical operation of these platforms, which rely on complex technologies and distribute their operations across several countries to evade security and legal oversight.
The joint efforts resulted in the arrest of 29 individuals out of 86 identified suspects, in addition to the execution of over 148 house searches in various targeted regions. Security authorities successfully dismantled nine organized criminal groups that were active in the illicit distribution of content. Furthermore, 59 cases were referred to the competent judicial authorities, with criminal investigations ongoing in 72 other files to ensure the prosecution of all those involved in these activities.
The operation also uncovered extensive technical dimensions, identifying 4,370 new piracy-related electronic domains and monitoring 18,331 IP addresses linked to these platforms. LaLiga's involvement in this campaign stems from its commitment to protecting audiovisual rights and confronting the cyber risks faced by users, especially given that these criminal organizations generate enormous profits by exploiting protected content and circumventing regulatory laws.
