Real Madrid Electoral Board Denies Riquelme's Accusations, Affirms Election Integrity
The Electoral Board of Spanish club Real Madrid has officially denied accusations made by presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme regarding alleged irregularities in the management of the electoral roll and the custody of postal votes. In an official statement, the Board emphasized its commitment to operating with strict standards and precision, adhering to all legal regulations governing the upcoming elections, scheduled for Sunday, June 7.
In response to these allegations, the Board clarified that it has not provided the electoral roll to any of the candidate lists, asserting that the process is proceeding according to approved timelines to ensure equal opportunities. The Electoral Board stated in its communiqué: "The Electoral Committee has not facilitated the electoral roll to any of the candidacies." It also noted that the window for submitting information intended for distribution to club members will remain open until 18:00 on Monday, June 1.
To further enhance transparency, the Electoral Committee offered both candidates, Florentino Pérez and Enrique Riquelme, the opportunity to appoint observers to monitor the postal vote security area around the clock. The Board stated in this regard: "With the aim of enhancing transparency and trust in the integrity of the postal vote custody procedures, candidacies that request it may appoint one of the accredited observers to remain permanently in the areas adjacent to the entrance of the hall designated for vote custody." This area is already subject to advanced video surveillance systems and continuous security personnel.
These elections are significant as they mark the first time since 2006 that members of the royal club will choose between more than one presidential candidate. This places the Electoral Board under close scrutiny to ensure the precise implementation of all legal procedures before polling day, amidst a climate of anticipation prevailing within the Spanish club ahead of determining the identity of its next president.
