Florentino Perez Defends Mbappe, Vows to Correct Real Madrid's Mistakes
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has criticized the media, accusing it of creating an atmosphere of negative tension and influencing public opinion against French star Kylian Mbappé.
In a lengthy interview with Spanish newspaper El País this weekend, Perez explained that media pressure had reached unprecedented levels, leading fans to adopt negative attitudes towards the player and distracting him at a sensitive stage of his career.
The president of the Royal Club strongly criticized the way player news is handled in the Spanish press. Florentino Perez stated: “There are journalists who don’t realize how poorly you write, and some believe it, but a true Real Madrid fan must defend their players, and if someone has a bad game, they should be supported.”
Perez pointed out that some media outlets exerted a very negative influence on the public during the current season, necessitating a direct response to protect the team's stability and the rights of its players.
Regarding the technical aspect, Perez believed that Mbappé competed last season in an unfamiliar position for him with French club Paris Saint-Germain, which caused a degree of distraction for the player.
The Real Madrid president continued, saying: “Mbappé played in a position that was not his original role at Paris Saint-Germain, and this confused him a little. We will work to correct the things we believe we did wrong, as we have excellent players and others will join.” He emphasized that responsibility for any decline does not rest solely with coaches or players.
These statements come as Perez campaigns for re-election as club president, facing competition from Enrique Riquelme ahead of the club members' vote scheduled for next Sunday. Perez affirmed his conviction in the ability of Vinicius Jr. and Mbappé to succeed together on the field, while also proposing the idea of opening the club's capital to external investors, a key point in his current electoral program.
