La Liga Denies Advising Sergio Ramos on Sevilla's Budget
La Liga has denied claims made by Sergio Ramos that the organization recommended a capital increase for Sevilla FC to €120 million instead of €80 million to ensure the club's continuity before June 30.
Sources from the league, headed by Javier Tebas, clarified to Spanish newspaper Marca that the body has never provided specific recommendations for clubs. These sources asserted that La Liga "at no point" issued such directives. While acknowledging that a €120 million increase appears logical given Sevilla's accumulated losses, they reiterated that the league "never recommends anything" in these financial matters.
Sergio Ramos made his statements during a press conference at the Eurostars Tower hotel in Seville. The player stated that the approach had to be adapted "based on the recommendation of La Liga and our advisors, who recommended increasing the capital by €120 million, not €80 million, before June 30 to ensure the club's viability." These remarks followed a meeting held in early March, attended by Martin Enc, Ramos' business partner and CEO of Five Eleven Capital, instead of the player himself, to discuss the financial implications of the proposed increase.
It is worth noting that clubs in the Spanish league face penalties due to accumulated losses from previous financial seasons, which prompted Sevilla to consult La Liga in March regarding the impact of an €80 million increase. While Ramos claimed a verbal agreement was reached in mid-May, La Liga's position remains firm on not interfering in clubs' investment decisions or imposing specific amounts for capital increases.
