Paris Celebrates Champions League Title by Renaming Metro Station "Paris Magical"
The Independent Transport Authority of Paris (RATP) has announced the renaming of the Porte de Saint-Cloud metro station on Line 9 to "Paris Magical." This celebratory measure follows Paris Saint-Germain's triumph in the UEFA Champions League for the second consecutive time. The authority sought to honor the team after their success in retaining the continental trophy yesterday, Saturday.
The Parisian club secured its historic title by defeating English side Arsenal in a match that concluded with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory, following a 1-1 draw in regular time. With this win, Paris Saint-Germain becomes only the second club in the 21st century to successfully claim the title in two consecutive seasons, an achievement previously accomplished solely by Spanish giants Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane in 2016 and 2017.
The French authority expressed its pride in this achievement across its digital platforms. The Independent Transport Authority of Paris stated, "They did it! RATP celebrates Paris Saint-Germain's victory. Porte de Saint-Cloud station on Line 9 becomes Paris Magical." This serves as a clear indication of the synergy between public services and the major sporting successes of the French capital, especially given that the chosen station is a pivotal meeting point for the club's fans.
This initiative is not the first of its kind in the capital's history. A similar step was taken last season following Paris Saint-Germain's inaugural Champions League title win, reinforcing this celebratory tradition that links public transport facilities with the team's historic achievements in European competitions.
