FIFA Releases New Batch of 2026 World Cup Tickets on First-Come, First-Served Basis
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the release of an additional allocation of tickets for all 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup. The sale commenced on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 23:00 France time, via the official website on a first-come, first-served basis. This release comes two weeks ahead of the official start of the global event, scheduled for June 11.
A spokesperson for FIFA explained that "FIFA's pricing strategy covers a wide range of price levels and categories, reflecting the market demand for each match," under a mechanism that allocates seats on a first-come, first-served basis. Organizers further confirmed on the tournament's official X account that "tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis as long as supplies last," indicating that the sale will continue until all quantities allocated for this new batch are exhausted.
This move comes as FIFA President Gianni Infantino revealed that over five million tickets have already been sold out of the seven million available for the tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. This means the upcoming edition has already surpassed the previous record set at the 1994 World Cup, which saw just over 3.5 million tickets sold.
These developments coincide with legal challenges faced by FIFA, following lawsuits filed by the European Fans' Organization and Euroconsumers group with the European Commission concerning alleged abuse of dominant market position. Additionally, judicial authorities in New York and New Jersey in the United States have opened an investigation into ticket sales practices, including those for matches scheduled to be held at MetLife Stadium.
