Wahbi on Amaymouni Call-Up: 'He Proved He Deserves His Place, Level is What Matters'
Mohamed Wahbi, coach of the Moroccan national team, praised the potential of his player Ayoub Amaimouni, confirming that the latter has proven to the national team's technical staff that he deserves a place in the 2026 World Cup squad.
Speaking at the press conference to announce the final squad for the 2026 World Cup, Wahbi stated regarding Amaimouni: "We were very impressed by his level even before the training camp began. He was a player we had identified from the start, and we traveled to Frankfurt to monitor his matches, watching all his games. He truly possesses exceptional qualities."
He continued: "He is young, dynamic, fast, and quickly grasps what we ask of him. He has the ability to play in depth, performs his defensive duties, and recovers quickly. He is a very interesting young player. In reality, he merely confirmed what we already believed about him. He didn't surprise us; rather, he simply reaffirmed his level during today's match. And he absolutely deserves it."
Wahbi concluded: "I have always maintained that I do not consider a player's age, where they play, or their number of international appearances. It doesn't matter if they have 20 or 30 international caps, or none at all. What is crucial is their performance level, and for some time now, he has been proving to us that he fully deserves his place in our national squad."
