Real Madrid Opens Elections, Pérez Retains Transfer and Renewal Powers

The Electoral Board of Spanish club Real Madrid has announced a call for a General Assembly to elect a new president and board of directors, starting May 14. This move aims to organize the club's leadership structure. Coinciding with the launch of this process, current president Florentino Pérez and his board members will retain full legal powers to continue their regular duties, including finalizing player transfers and signing contract renewals without any procedural restrictions.

These extensive powers are based on the club's internal regulations. Article 39 of Real Madrid's statutes clarifies that "the outgoing president and board of directors will continue to fully exercise their duties until the elected president and board assume their positions."

This legal continuity is intended to protect the club's sporting interests and ensure that ongoing negotiations or strategic decisions are not halted during the transitional period preceding the vote.

The electoral procedures are expected to last up to a month. Prospective candidates will be given a ten-day period to submit guarantees and official nominations, followed by two days for the competent club authorities to review and approve the documents. Should no competitors emerge against Florentino Pérez, his victory as president for a new term will be automatically announced. However, the door remains open for any newly elected administration to make major decisions, which could include changing the team's technical staff.

Regarding on-field matters, this situation grants the current administration the opportunity to consider technical files such as the potential signing of coach José Mourinho or the renewal of key team players' contracts. Attention is focused on securing the future of players like Vinicius Jr and Antonio Rüdiger, ensuring the stability of the squad's core amidst the anticipated administrative changes.
