Adli: "I'd be lying if I said I don't dream of playing in the World Cup; the squad list is constantly on my mind."
Moroccan international Amine Adli, who plays for English club Bournemouth, has expressed his dream of participating with the "Atlas Lions" in the 2026 World Cup, affirming that the national team is capable of achieving a significant accomplishment in the tournament.
Adli gave an interview to RMC SPORT, where he spoke about the World Cup, stating: "I feel a mix of everything. Naturally, there's some tension, and regarding optimism, I'd say yes and no at the same time. I believe I performed well in the second half of the season, especially after missing the Africa Cup of Nations, which affected me greatly."
He continued: "I tried to be more effective and perform better to earn a chance to participate in the World Cup. Now, I was present in the last national team gathering, and certainly, I'd be lying if I said I don't dream of playing in the World Cup."
Adli added: "Everyone dreams of participating in the World Cup. I'm very excited to see the squad list, but I know I could be happy or disappointed. If that happens, I'll continue to work hard to return to the national team. But honestly, in recent days, the idea of the squad list hasn't left my mind, and I hope to see my name on it."
He further elaborated: "For me, it would be exceptional. Regardless of the match, whether friendly or official, representing my country is truly wonderful. The enthusiasm surrounding the national team and the pride you can give to people is indescribable. But participating in a tournament like the World Cup would be even more special. It's a tournament everyone dreams of playing in, featuring the biggest teams, the best players, and the most beautiful atmospheres and stadiums."
Regarding the possibility of repeating the 2022 World Cup achievement, Adli stated: "Without putting pressure on anyone – not on us, not on the players, and not even on the fans – it's certain that the results the national team has achieved in recent years have made it aspire to accomplish greater things."
He concluded: "The national team now commands greater respect, and this pushes you to think with big ambitions. However, the World Cup includes many strong contenders and major teams, so it's difficult to set a clear goal. Nevertheless, I believe that this group and the quality of players we possess, in addition to what we've delivered in recent years, enable us to consider putting on a great World Cup performance. As for winning the title, I don't know, but we can certainly achieve beautiful things."
