Marca Reveals Uncertainty Surrounding La Liga Coaches' Futures for New Season
A report by Spanish newspaper Marca has revealed that only five out of 20 coaches in La Liga have secured their positions for the upcoming season, reflecting a state of uncertainty across Spanish clubs. The list of confirmed coaches includes Hansi Flick with Barcelona, Diego Pablo Simeone at Atlético Madrid, Claudio Giráldez with Celta Vigo, in addition to Pellegrino Matarazzo at Real Sociedad, and Kike Sánchez Flores, coach of Alavés.
Barcelona is set to renew the contract of their German coach Hansi Flick until June 2028, with an option for an additional season. Meanwhile, Argentina's Diego Pablo Simeone is preparing to begin his sixteenth consecutive season at the helm of Atlético Madrid. Celta Vigo also reinforced their technical stability by extending Claudio Giráldez's contract until June 2028, a move approved last April 1st to ensure the continuity of the team's sporting project.
Pellegrino Matarazzo confirmed his stay with Real Sociedad, stating: "I will continue to coach Real Sociedad next season; I have a contract and I am very happy here." In the same vein, Kike Sánchez Flores secured his continuity with Alavés after mathematically ensuring their survival in the Spanish league. He clarified his future aspirations, saying: "The goal will be not to suffer, because suffering is exhausting and generates frustration. What I want is to enjoy and work on a project that builds a strong team for the fans." The club aims to avoid the pressures of a relegation battle in the upcoming campaign.
In contrast, the upcoming season will see confirmed changes at some clubs. Ernesto Valverde is departing as coach of Athletic Bilbao after an extensive career spanning 504 official matches over ten seasons, to be replaced by Edin Terzic. Marcelino García Toral is also leaving Villarreal after two and a half seasons, with Iñigo Pérez set to take over the team's technical management.
