Hansi Flick Confirms Barcelona Contract Extension Until 2028 with Option for Additional Year
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has announced an agreement to sign a new contract, ensuring his tenure at the helm of the Catalan club until at least 2028. This confirmation came during statements made by the German coach ahead of the anticipated La Liga clash against Alavés, settling speculation about his future following a series of reports suggesting the two parties were close to reaching a final agreement.
The new agreement extends Flick's stay by an additional year beyond his previous contract, which was set to expire in 2027. It also includes a clause that grants both parties the option to extend for another season after 2028.
Flick stated in this regard: "We will continue until 2028, and then we have an option for another year. We will see if things go well; I have the right to it, just as the club has the same right."
The German coach further elaborated on the reasons for his decision, explaining that the club had shown him in recent days that the team is in the right place and enjoys the necessary support from the appropriate individuals.
This development aims to bolster technical stability within the Blaugrana ranks. The Catalan capital recently saw the presence of Flick's agent, Pini Zahavi, to finalize the last details of the deal, following earlier statements from interim club president Rafa Yuste hinting at an imminent agreement. With this extension, the club seeks to continue the successful trajectory achieved under Flick's leadership, where the team has clinched five out of six possible domestic titles over the past two seasons.
While Flick celebrates securing the Spanish La Liga title for the second consecutive time, Barcelona's management and players are setting the UEFA Champions League as a primary target for the upcoming season, especially with the completion of the technical team's structure and the stability of the club's future vision. This stability is expected to provide a significant morale boost to the squad in upcoming competitions, particularly as the coach feels complete support from both the administration and the fans.
