Yamal Faces Backlash from Pro-Israel Supporters After Raising Palestinian Flag During Barcelona Celebrations
Young Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has faced a wave of anger from pro-Israel supporters after he raised the Palestinian flag during the team's celebrations for winning the Spanish league title.
Media outlets circulated a video clip showing Yamal raising the Palestinian flag high during Barcelona's La Liga title celebrations, as players toured the streets of Barcelona amidst a large public presence. This act provoked dissatisfaction among many pro-Israel followers on social media platforms.
The reactions from some followers supporting the "Zionist entity" were angry, including sharp comments and direct criticism of the player. Some even went as far as wishing him injury and absence from the World Cup due to his raising of the Palestinian flag during the celebrations.
Angry comments poured in for Yamal following the video's spread, with one stating: "I am a Barcelona fan and I love Lamine, but I sincerely wish him to get injured and not play in the World Cup."
Another follower continued: "Belief in Yamal is proof that no matter how much talent you have in your feet, if you don't have a mind in your head, it's useless."
While another said: "Instead of being a source of inspiration for youth around the world and a role model who instills values of sportsmanship and peace, he chose to raise a flag in whose name terrorists have emerged to commit massacres, rapes, and kidnappings of Israelis." The article commented that this was an attempt to defend their unknown entity, which has been committing massacres against the Palestinian people for years.
For his part, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick expressed his displeasure during a press conference regarding Yamal's humanitarian stance, indicating that he did not approve of the 18-year-old player's action.
