Dembélé Crowned Ligue 1 Player of the Season for Second Consecutive Time
Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé has been named the Ligue 1 Player of the Year for the 2025-2026 season. The announcement was made during the National Union of Professional Football Players (UNFP) awards ceremony held on Monday evening at the Pavillon Cambon Capucines in Paris. This marks the French star's second consecutive triumph, having also secured the award in 2025. Dembélé topped the voting, which included players, coaches, and referees, ahead of teammates Nuno Mendes and Vitinha, as well as Florian Thauvin from Lens and Mason Greenwood from Olympique Marseille.
Dembélé, who also won the 2025 Ballon d'Or, collected additional individual accolades, including a spot in the Team of the Season and the Goal of the Season award, voted by the public. The Parisian attacker expressed his pride in the achievement, stating, “I am delighted to win this type of award. It's an individual title that I owe to the entire Paris Saint-Germain club. I have exceptional teammates, and three or four of them also deserved to win.” He also praised his coach, Luis Enrique, describing him as an exceptional manager, and playfully teased teammate Vitinha, suggesting he would have deserved the award if he had scored an additional goal.
The ceremony honored several top performers in French football. Désiré Doué received the award for Best Young Player in Ligue 1 for the second consecutive year, while Pierre Sage was named Best Coach and Robin Risser was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper in the league. In Ligue 2, Zuriko Davitashvili won Best Player, and Stéphane Dumont was awarded Best Coach. Michael Olise was named Best French Professional Player Abroad for his performances with German club Bayern Munich.
In the women's categories, Melchie Dumornay was awarded Best Female Player in the French league, and Mylène Chavas received the Best Female Goalkeeper award. These accolades come as Paris Saint-Germain prepares for a highly anticipated clash against English club Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League final on May 30, with Dembélé also expected to feature for the French national team in the upcoming World Cup finals.
