Manchester United Renews Kobbie Mainoo's Contract for Five Years Until 2031
Manchester United has officially announced the renewal of young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo's contract for an additional five years, extending his stay at Old Trafford until the summer of 2031. This announcement underscores the 21-year-old's growing stature within the club's future plans, particularly under the guidance of head coach Michael Carrick, who took over in January following Ruben Amorim.
In line with the club's focus on strengthening its young core, the new deal replaces the previous agreement Mainoo signed in 2023, which was set to expire in the summer of 2027. The England international has proven his worth by becoming a permanent fixture in the starting lineup, featuring in 26 matches across all competitions this season, including 24 in the Premier League. Carrick has relied heavily on him, with Mainoo playing in 12 of the 13 matches since the new manager's arrival.
On the field, statistics highlight Mainoo's pivotal role in midfield. Only Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro have played more minutes under Carrick's management. He also stands out as one of the best playmakers and ball carriers, second only to Fernandes, in addition to his defensive contributions, where only Casemiro surpasses him in successful tackles. Expressing his pride in continuing with the team, Mainoo stated, “Manchester United has always been my home, and this special club means everything to my family. I am determined to play my part in helping the team consistently compete for major trophies in the coming years.”
Mainoo's journey with the Red Devils began when he joined training at the age of six, culminating in him scoring the decisive goal in the 2023-2024 FA Cup final. He has now accumulated a total of 98 appearances for the team. Describing the current atmosphere, Mainoo added, “We can all feel the momentum building within the club, and I have an unwavering desire to succeed here, just as I felt in my very first training session as a child.”
