Spanish Reports: Walid Regragui's Name Emerges in Real Madrid Discussions, Moroccan Coach Highly Valued
Real Madrid is enduring a disappointing season, having exited both the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey, in addition to falling behind rivals Barcelona in the La Liga standings. This situation threatens to see them finish the season without any trophies, an outcome deemed unacceptable by club president Florentino Perez.
According to circulating reports, Perez does not intend to retain coach Alvaro Arbeloa in his position for the upcoming season. The club's management is actively searching for alternatives capable of guiding the team back to winning ways, with several names currently under consideration for the role.
During an open discussion on a live broadcast by journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, club supporters circulated names of potential candidates. These included Jose Mourinho, who reportedly has Perez's backing, and Jürgen Klopp, supported by former player Toni Kroos. Surprisingly, Walid Regragui's name then emerged within the discussion.
Regragui commands widespread respect within Spain, particularly following his historic achievement with the Moroccan national team at the 2022 World Cup. He famously guided the 'Atlas Lions' to the semi-finals, earning him a strong reputation within Spanish football circles.
In this context, journalist Joaquin Maroto affirmed that Real Madrid's management holds great appreciation for Regragui's work, particularly regarding his ability to foster team spirit and instill a fighting mentality within his squad – qualities that have not gone unnoticed by club officials.
Despite Regragui's name being discussed within the club's corridors, and even circulated more frequently than Mourinho's at one point, he is not considered a primary option at present. It is also understood that he has received several offers from various federations and clubs.
