FIFA Reverses Ban on Tailgating at Gillette Stadium for 2026 World Cup

FIFA has announced a reversal of its initial decision to ban tailgating at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough during the 2026 World Cup. The Boston World Cup organizing committee revealed on Monday that fans will officially be permitted to engage in these pre-match celebrations for the seven matches scheduled at the venue, which include six group stage encounters and one quarter-final game.

This decision aligns with local policies in the U.S. state of Massachusetts, where no regulatory or public safety restrictions were found to prohibit such activities at the stadium facilities. The Boston World Cup organizing committee stated that the arrangement would be "like any other event hosted by the stadium, as there are no facility restrictions or local public safety restrictions in effect that would prohibit it," ensuring the preservation of the usual atmosphere for fans. Gillette Stadium is the primary home of the New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL) and the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Regarding logistics, approximately 5,000 parking spaces will be allocated for public use during the tournament days, a figure significantly lower than the 20,000 spaces typically available for American football games. Alongside these arrangements, Boston transportation authorities announced alternative transport options, including round-trip train journeys for $80 and express buses costing $95 per trip, to facilitate fan access to the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada between June 11 and July 19, 2026.
