Robben Backs Bayern Munich for Champions League Semis: "They Are Stable and Everything Works Perfectly"
Arjen Robben has backed his former club, Bayern Munich, to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals at the expense of Real Madrid, ahead of their highly anticipated quarter-final second leg match tomorrow, Wednesday.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" about his thoughts on the first leg, Robben stated: "For me, Bayern were the better side. I think the result was perhaps less than what the team deserved. But Real Madrid remains Real Madrid, and this is what the coach also said: you have to be vigilant and focused for the full 90 or 95 minutes against them. Even if you are 2-0 up and think everything is going well, they can score from nothing. In football, the match never truly ends. Real Madrid is the best example of that."
He continued, regarding the most impressive player in the first leg: "Everyone was talking with great admiration about Neuer. I was very happy for him because I played with him for a long time. For me, he has always been the best goalkeeper in the world, and when he plays a match like this in a Champions League quarter-final at this age, it proves his high level. But I was not surprised."
Regarding Bayern Munich's current coach, the same speaker commented: "They are a real team. Vincent Kompany has done an excellent job. They press in attack and defense. This is a characteristic of great teams: returning to defend and playing as a unit. Everything works perfectly, and every player knows their role. They have a clear plan and are superior in most matches."
Regarding tomorrow's match in Munich, Robben explained: "Bayern will try to maintain their playing style. They don't need to change their tactics, as it has been successful throughout the season. Of course, the defense must be solid, and the attack organized. It's about entering the match with passion and conviction. You must have confidence and not be afraid."
As for his predictions for tomorrow's match result, he said: "Bayern! Because they are stable and everything is working perfectly now. They are a very strong machine, and I think they will continue that until the end, but football remains football; a red card or anything can happen. Caution is needed. They must stay focused for the full 95 minutes."
