FIFA Rejects Iran's Request to Relocate World Cup Matches from USA to Mexico
FIFA has rejected Iran's request to relocate its World Cup matches from the United States to Mexico, citing the ongoing dispute between Iran and the United States.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated during a press conference on the matter: "FIFA ultimately decided that the matches cannot be moved from their original venues."
Sheinbaum noted that this decision would require significant logistical effort from FIFA's perspective. Iran had previously requested not to play its three group stage matches in the United States due to the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
FIFA had previously expressed reservations regarding Iran's request to move its matches against Belgium, New Zealand, and Egypt in the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
