Iranian Officials Meet FIFA President to Confirm World Cup Participation
Officials from the Iranian Football Federation held a bilateral meeting with Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), in Turkey. The meeting saw significant diplomatic progress regarding Iran's participation in the upcoming World Cup finals in the United States.
These discussions resulted in a reduction of speculation about the Iranian national team boycotting the tournament or seeking to relocate its matches. The team is now on track to participate normally in the global competition.
During the meeting, Infantino offered tangible assistance to enhance the Iranian team's preparations before the start of the global football spectacle, affirming his full support for the team. Gianni stated: “I am at your service and if you need help, I will provide it,” a clear indication of support for the technical and logistical readiness of the delegation, which is scheduled to arrive at its training camp in Tucson, Arizona, by June 10.
This diplomatic move comes at the end of a month marked by tension following the outbreak of a military conflict involving Iran on February 28, which had raised questions about its international sports participation.
Despite previous obstacles faced by some delegation members, including Federation President Mehdi Taj, concerning the acquisition of US entry visas, matters are now moving towards resolution.
Iran secured its qualification for the finals in March 2025 as one of the best teams in the Asian continent, at a time when domestic league competitions have been suspended due to current circumstances.
