Kroos: Bayern Munich Fails to Maintain Second-Leg Level, Real Madrid Most Dangerous in Chaotic Matches
Former German player Toni Kroos believes Bayern Munich could have secured qualification in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, but they allowed Real Madrid to score and win the encounter (2-1), warning that Bayern will likely perform at a lower level in the return leg at home.
Toni said in his brother Felix's podcast: "What happened in the first leg didn't surprise me, but what happened after Bayern Munich took a 2-0 lead was the most striking. Bayern always performs well against Real Madrid, but in the second leg, they often don't maintain their level."
He continued: "Things should have been decided after they went 2-0 up, removing all doubts, but what surprised me was that Bayern Munich started to retreat. They were dominant, and I expected them to continue in the same way and add more goals. I thought they would maintain their control, but the opposite happened."
He concluded by saying: "Real Madrid is the most dangerous team in the world when matches turn into chaos and reciprocal attacks; it's their preferred style. That's why they almost equalized. The match could have ended in a 3-3 draw, but it finished 2-1."
Real Madrid will visit Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday (20:00 GMT+1) for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
