Atletico Madrid Plots to Provoke Yamal into Yellow Card Suspension for Second Leg

Atletico Madrid has set a key tactical and psychological objective for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, taking place today, Wednesday, at Spotify Camp Nou. Coach Diego Simeone aims to force Barcelona's Lamine Yamal to receive a yellow card, which would lead to his suspension from the return leg.

The 18-year-old winger currently has four yellow cards in the competition. He needs just one more card to reach the suspension threshold, which would rule him out of the second leg scheduled for April 14 at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Atletico's coaching staff, led by Simeone, has prepared a plan to impose intense and progressive marking on Yamal. This plan is expected to involve committing early tactical fouls on the right wing to disrupt his progress and prevent him from reaching the goal line. Additionally, it includes frequent double-teaming to force him to receive the ball with his back to goal or in uncomfortable positions, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
