Nico Gonzalez Red Card Against Barcelona Halts Atletico Madrid Purchase Clause Activation
A direct red card received by Nico Gonzalez during the match against Barcelona has thwarted the player's automatic stay with Atletico Madrid. This disciplinary action prevented him from fulfilling the conditions of the mandatory purchase clause stipulated in his loan contract from Juventus. Consequently, the Madrid club will not be obliged to pay the previously agreed 32 million euros to sign the player permanently.
Under the current contractual terms, the agreement required Gonzalez to participate for at least 45 minutes in 60% of a total of 35 La Liga matches to trigger the automatic purchase. Although the player has featured in 20 domestic commitments to date, only 14 of those matches met the required technical criteria. This makes reaching the targeted figures by the end of the season impossible following the recent sending-off incident.
The player's continued presence in the Spanish capital will now hinge on new negotiations between Atletico's management and the Italian side after the current season concludes. This task appears complicated, especially given that the player is confirmed to miss the upcoming fixture against Sevilla.
In a related development, Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti indicated that Gonzalez is part of his technical plans for next season. This statement opens the door to the possibility of his return to his parent club in Turin.
