Barcelona "Snatch" Victory from Atlético Madrid and Extend Lead to 7 Points Over Real Madrid
The top clash of La Liga's 31st round concluded with Barcelona defeating hosts Atlético Madrid 2-1 at the Cívitas Metropolitano stadium.
The match began with several dangerous attempts before Atlético Madrid managed to open the scoring through Argentine Giuliano Simeone in the 39th minute. However, Barça quickly equalized via England's Marcus Rashford in the 42nd minute.
The first half ended negatively for the home side after defender Nico González was sent off in the 45+7th minute.
At the start of the second half, the referee showed a red card to Barça defender Gerard Martín. However, after VAR intervention, the decision was overturned, arguing that the player touched the ball before stepping on Thiago Almada's foot. In contrast, assistant coach Diego Simeone was sent off for protesting.
As the match seemed headed for a draw, substitute Robert Lewandowski emerged to score the winning goal for the Catalan side in the 87th minute.
