Laporta Rules Out Major Barcelona Signings for Summer 2026, Backs La Masia
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has announced that the club does not intend to make significant or widespread changes during the summer transfer window for the 2026-27 season.
Speaking to "Mundo Esport," Laporta clarified that the Catalan club's current direction is to maintain team stability, focusing on strengthening the squad by directly relying on emerging talents from the La Masia academy to improve collective performance.
Laporta affirmed that the club will only resort to the transfer market in very limited cases. He stated, "We don't need to go to the market just to buy. We must continue to look at what we have in-house to improve the team if necessary."
He further explained his vision, stating that achieving a competitive team requires establishing and solidifying it rather than constant change. He indicated that new signings would be limited to specific requests from the technical management to reinforce certain positions, with a maximum of one or two players to support the current squad. Laporta said, "We will only sign if the technical management asks us for one or two players who can strengthen this magnificent team we have."
Laporta emphasized his deep belief in the academy's ability to provide the first team with the necessary players. The club president stated, "I believe in La Masia. I focused on it during my first tenure. The best version of Barcelona in history was when we had a core of our homegrown players alongside top-tier talent who came from outside."
Amid preparations for the new season, Barcelona, under coach Hansi Flick, aims to balance its needs in defensive and attacking positions while preserving the technical identity represented by its youth sector graduates.
